Equity Release Top-up Qualification
Since 6 April 2007, an individual who wishes to give advice upon any form of equity release product (including lifetime mortgages) is required to complete an equity release appropriate examination.
CIOBS has devised a top-up examination for anyone who has completed Apex6 - Lifetime Mortgages, and for anyone who is currently studying Apex 6.
From September, a new course, the Equity Release Mortgage Advice and Practice Certificate will be available. This qualification is not necessary for anyone who has completed Apex 6 plus the top-up examination.

Lifetime Mortgage Advice and Practice Certificate (LMAPC)
The LMAPC qualification is primarily aimed at anyone who is involved in the mortgage advice giving process and who specifically wishes to give advice on lifetime mortgages. It would also be very relevant for those who are involved in a non-advice giving role, e.g. mortgage processing.
Candidates are required to pass the following four examinations in order to complete this qualification.
- UK Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics (ApEx 1)
- Investment & Risks (ApEx 2)
- Mortgage Advice (ApEx 5) & Integrated Learning Outcome (H2)
- Lifetime Mortgages (ApEx 6) & Integrated Learning Outcome (H3)
CIOBS is pleased to offer this qualification across the UK, with the multiple choice examinations being conducted on-line at an increasing number of centres. Candidates taking the Mortgage Advice and Integrated Learning module can elect to study for and sit the examination under Scots or English / Welsh Law.
Upon completion, candidates may also apply for Professional Mortgage Adviser (PMA) status. This clearly and visibly demonstrates the individual's mortgage knowledge and professionalism to both colleagues and customers alike.
The qualification can also provide access with credit towards our prestigious Chartered Banker award.
