OVERSEAS STUDENTS - Chartered Banker Programme Only

Qualifications for Entry

The Institute welcomes applications from overseas candidates who have the necessary qualifications for entry to our Chartered Banker programme. The minimum entry qualification is a post school qualification. Candidates should also have achieved a standard of English equivalent to:

  • IELTS: minimum grade 6-6.5
  • TOEFL: minimum 550 paper-based/213 computer-based
  • GCSE: Minimum grade C
  • Cambridge certificate of proficiency in English: minimum grade C.
  • Graduate entrants may be entitled to an enhanced entry position.

Candidates who meet the minimum entry qualifications can enrol for the Chartered Banker programme or any of its related Diplomas. This does not include the Diploma in Financial Services.

Enrolment Procedures

Candidates must complete an application form which can be downloaded from this website. This must be signed and returned to the Institute before any application for admission can be processed.

Included with the application form should be all the relevant documentation providing proof of meeting the minimum entry qualifications. These should be certified by a member of staff at your local British Council office.

Membership and Subject fees must be paid before entry to any of the Institute's qualifications will be allowed. However, applicants are advised to wait for confirmation that their qualifications are acceptable before sending any monies. It is recommended that applicants should not enrol for any more than 3 subjects at a time.

Fees

The subject fees from 2008 are as follows:

  • Full Credit subject £600
  • Half Credit Subject £350

Fees are payable in GBP only.

The fee includes:

  • PDF version of the course materials
  • One attempt at the exam plus one re-sit, if required
  • Student support as indicated below

Student Support

The Academy is the CIOBS function which has the dedicated aim of supporting students throughout the period of their studies.

  • Allocated Tutor for marking assignments and additional support
  • Student support e-mail helpline
  • Chat Room which allows students to interact with fellow students
  • Forums to facilitate the 'posting' of course or subject related matters
  • Specimen exam papers available for downloading from the member's area of the website
  • Revision notes are available for some subjects on payment of a fee. More details of the subject availability and cost can be found in the Chartered Banker section of the website.

Examination Entry

Examinations will be held at the nearest available British Council examination centre. Please ensure that there is an exam centre accessible to you before you enrol for the examinations.

Final date for entry to examinations from overseas students is as follows:

  • February 1 for examinations in April/May
  • August 1 for examinations in October/November

Institute Rules and Regulations

Candidates must abide by the Institute Rules and Regulations which cover admittance to the Institute and examination behaviour, except where these rules are replaced by specific rules governing overseas students.
