Chartered Banker

A Chartered Banker is someone who has proven their commitment to professional standards of excellence by successful completion of the Institute's top tier qualification and continual development of their business related and financial services skills and knowledge.

Chartered Banker status is recognised across the UK and worldwide. The designation was approved by the Privy Council in 2000 and it can only be granted by The Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland.

The designation can be achieved by successful completion of our new Chartered Banker Qualification, which was launched in April 2006 by Rt. Hon Jack McConnell MSP, First Minister of Scotland. Chartered Banker status is also open to the Institute's qualified Members & Fellows.

"This is a qualification for the 21 st century" . " It's great to see a Scottish organisation yet again leading the world in developing such an innovative qualification".

Jack McConnell MSP

Being a Chartered Banker is about developing modern professionalism and maintaining up to date knowledge of the financial services sector, therefore to retain Chartered Banker status, individual members must meet the required 35 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) per year.

Our Chartered Banker programme is the premier qualification for professionals in financial services. It embraces subjects that are fundamental to the industry now, as well as subjects that will develop skills that the industry requires for the future. Chartered Banker reflects our fundamental commitment to lifelong learning as well as our aim to widen professionalism and consequently the career opportunities of our new breed of Chartered Bankers.
