Membership

Transferring to the CIOBS

The Institute welcomes enquiries from prospective members who may be interested in joining or transferring their membership. The normal route to membership is to pass the qualifying examinations to become a Member and Chartered Banker.

Holders of a University degree are offered a fast track route through our professional qualification structure. Those holding a degree are exempted from the entry level Certificate/Diploma in financial services and can progress directly to the professional level Chartered Banker programme. On application to the Chartered Banker programme degree holders will be automatically granted three credits regardless of their degree subject. This reduces the number of credits required to gain the qualification from eleven to eight. In addition holders of degrees in Management, Accounting, Law or Economics may be granted one further exemption from the programme.

The Institute also welcomes enquires from prospective members who may hold other professional qualifications. Candidates with other professional qualifications may be entitled to advanced standing in our professional qualification structure depending on the level, content and nature of the qualification held. We particularly welcome holders of other professional qualifications in banking and financial services who may be entitled to partial or complete exemption depending on the award they currently hold.

We also welcome those who may be interested in participating in the Institute activities but who are not able to commit to complete the professional examinations. The Institute has an affiliate category of membership which provides access to our website and other activities but does not give any membership designation or voting rights.

For further details on any aspect of Membership please contact the Institute Office.
