The International Chartered Banker Conference
Facing the Challenges of the Future 2008
The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, Wednesday 28 May 2008

A key part of Scotland's Global Financial Services Week (26th to 29th May 2008), the International Chartered Banker Conference brought together senior industry figures to discuss the increasing challenges ahead in increasingly uncertain times.

The conference tackled many potential challenges of the future and gave financial services professionals an opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills, and to meet and share expertise with both local and international colleagues. The Chartered Banker Conference is a unique event for banking and financial services professionals in Scotland. We hope that there was much in the programme this year that was new and challenging, as our ambition is to help Institute members and others remain not just up-to-date, but ahead of the competition.

Conference Sessions

The conference included:

  • an opening keynote address from John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth;
  • a question and answer panel discussion comprising industry and regulators on instilling
    professionalism and ethics;
  • a range of international speakers on the impact of globalisation in financial services; and
  • a series of workshops on the need for change and innovation in the current economic climate, including: coaching for change and innovation, the challenges and opportunities for bancassurance, and the use of new and emerging technologies in financial services.
