Miller McLean

Miller McLean is Group Secretary and General Counsel of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc.

Miller joined the Royal Bank of Scotland as a graduate trainee in 1970 and gained wide branch and head office departmental experience before being appointed Personal Assistant to the Group Chief Executive in 1983.

From 1985 to 1994 he held a number of executive legal and company secretarial roles, and was appointed Group Secretary in 1988. In 1994 he was appointed Director, Group Legal and Regulatory Affairs and Group Secretary and in 2000, following the acquisition of National Westminster Bank Plc, he became Group Director, Legal and Regulatory Affairs and Group Secretary. In 2003 he was appointed Group Secretary and General Counsel.

Miller was educated at Glasgow University, graduating with an MA degree in 1970 and qualifying as an Associate of the Institute of Bankers in Scotland in 1972, before graduating Bachelor of Laws with distinction from Edinburgh University in 1978. He was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland in 1992, becoming a Member of Council in 1997 and a Vice President in 2002.

Miller is Chairman of the Trustees of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group Pension Fund and The Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance Pension Fund, and a director of Ulster Bank Group Limited and Adam & Company Group plc.

He is also Chairman of the Whitehall and Industry Group, a Trustee of the Industry and Parliament Trust and a director of The Scottish Parliament and Business Exchange.
