Chief Executive of the Institute
Simon Thompson Simon Thompson was appointed Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland in June 2007. Before joining the Institute, Simon was responsible for managing the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB), an independent standards-setting board established by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), developing and promoting International Education Standards for Professional Accountants. He previously worked for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), establishing ACCA in 25 countries in Central & Eastern Europe, and leading a number of EU and other donor-funded accounting education and reform programmes. After graduating from university, Simon lived and worked in Poland and the Czech Republic from 1994 to 2000, teaching and then managing a series of international education and training businesses. Simon holds a BA (Politics and Economics) from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and an MBA from the University of Edinburgh. |
